Memories of Lynn
King’s Lynn since the 1960s
The Memories of Lynn touring exhibition tells the story of how King’s Lynn has changed from the 1960s to the present day.
The exhibition is the culmination of a joint project between Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service and the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk to collect people's memories and photographs of living and working in King’s Lynn.
Local people have been sharing their recollections of the town at reminiscence sessions and oral history interviews which have been taking place throughout July and August.
The exhibition focuses on five key areas of the town: the Fairstead Estate, Hillington Square, South Lynn, North Lynn industrial estate and the town centre and also looks forward to the future of King’s Lynn.
Laura Cole-Matthews, Growing Communities Project Officer, said: “We’ve had a fantastic response to the project and I’m very grateful to those people who have contributed their photographs and memories of Lynn for the exhibition”.
The exhibition opens at the King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council Offices on the 1st October and will go on to tour local venues throughout the autumn including Hillington Square Community Centre, King’s Lynn Baptist Church, Fairstead Community Centre, King’s Lynn and Gaywood libraries and True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum. It will finally go to the Lynn Museum in January 2011 for a larger exhibition including objects from the museums collections.
